The time is right to put in a new plantation on your spare land for timber and/or carbon sequestration.

Australia is gearing up to join the UN Net Zero coalition - to achieve net zero emissions goal by 2050, with a 2030 emissions reduction target in place.

Generous plantation establishment grants are being offered by the federal government until FY 2027-28 to encourage new private timber plantations of 20Ha or more. These can cover most of the costs of establishment if applied efficiently

Generate ACCUs over the life of your plantation project by registering it with the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). With the right timber species for your site you can sequester significant carbon, typically 5-25 tonnes CO2e/Ha (Carbon dioxide equivalent per hectare) per year*. Yields depend on soil fertility, rainfall, species selection and a number of other variables but are well understood and mapped out for many common timber species such as radiata pine, blue gum and white cypress pine. Other products can also be yielded from your site, like truffles, forest mushrooms, nuts, integrated grazing animals and honey

Current Australian ACCU trading price (2024) of $35-40 AUD per tonne CO2e predicted to rise as we approach the 2030 deadline for emissions reductions. European prices are near $100/tonne.

Sell your timber crop at the end of the project cycle into a market predicted to be severely undersupplied, see: https://www.timberandforestryenews.com/australias-timber-shortage-realities/
